Steam Deck

I thought I was past the time I could play video games with any significant time commitment. My ten year old Alienware laptop chugs along, fighting dust and age to provide the most bare bones gaming. My PS5 sits cold in the basement under a 77 inch screen that barely sees usage due to the fact it’s in a basement no one wants to spend time in other than me. It’s very cold down there.

But along came the Steam Deck; convenient, easy to use, linked directly to my large Steam backlog. Christmas 2024. It’s been wonderful to rediscover gaming and games, specifically the large field of indie games that scratch any itch, including weird ones. Add the resurgence of PSX style graphics that hit me right in the nostalgia button.

It’s been 3 full months and I’ve played more games than the past 3 years. Again, helpful its not Red Dead 2 sized games that eat time like popcorn. In fact, I tried to play Shadow of Mordor early in my Steam Deck experience, partially to test the system. It passed but so did my interest in the game. Maybe in the future, but for now I need bite size games, or at least games I can approach in bite size pieces.
