Growing up as a kid of the 90s, I spent much time on dial-up internet scrolling through Newgrounds and Ebaum’s World to try the hundreds of flash games on offer. In a time before “indie” games, this was an indie boom. Anyone with remotely any interest could invest their time and learn to make basic games. I remember loving some game about Pablo going to school, I played as George Bush protecting the Oval Office with an AR, and the myriad of “kill celebrity” games that hit my age demographic spot on. Newgrounds was my internet home for a time.
Frog Fractions, one of the biggest inside jokes of gaming, brings me back to those times. The sheer absurdity, the creativity that leaves you unsure of what’s next and cracking up the entire time. Frog Fractions is a flash game about a frog eating bugs. It is also, spoiler alert, a genre bending romp through the efforts of, essentially, a single person.
This game is not optimized for the Steam Deck but it doesn’t have to be, its a mouse and keyboard flash game. A little finnicky at times but the job gets done. I appreciate Frog Fractions for what it is and the memories it helps flood back. It’s also pretty short so the risk-reward ratio is pretty high. Give it a shot.
